Common Reporting Standard is an information exchange regulation published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which anticipates the automatic exchange of financial account matters for taxation issues and is currently covered by more than 100 countries.
The regulation is formed on the basis of the "Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information" signed in 2017 by 107 countries, including Turkey, with the aim of improving international cooperation in the field of preventing tax losses and evasion. Accordingly, financial institutions in Turkey have been notified by the Ministry of Finance that they have to fulfill their obligations under the regulation as of July 1, 2017.
The competent authority to collect information from financial institutions within the scope of practice in Turkey is the Revenue Administration of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. The responsibilities of financial institutions are to report certain information of persons and institutions that appear as foreign residents in customer records to the Revenue Administration.
Regarding the regulation, a guide has been prepared by the Revenue Administration and the details of the application are included in the guide. Click here to access the guide.
